Job Description and Specification

Job Title:  Senior Fundraiser

Job Purpose: This new fundraising role will have responsibility for managing and growing a number of existing fundraising ventures as well as developing and expanding a number of newly identified revenue streams. The role will form a key part in achieving DSI’s new revenue targets identified under our new strategic plan to build strength and long term stability into DSI’s fundraising activities.

Main Tasks:

To develop and expand DSI’s fundraising efforts in a number of newly identified areas, including:

The securing of grant aid from Trusts and Foundations
Cultivation of Major Donors
Identification and securement of individuals suitable to support the organisations work as part of voluntary fundraising or events committee(s)
Growing Supporter Led Activity by Maximising current relationships and cultivating new ones
Development of a Wills & Legacy programme
To manage and grow a number of DSI’s existing fundraising ventures, to include:
DSI’s Charity Shops
Maximising the return from the two existing stores and potentially opening further outlets.
DSI’s annual nationwide bag pack
Growing relationships with retail sponsors; Sourcing and securing volunteers; Appointing and co-ordinating supervisors
To meet agreed fundraising targets: optimising the financial inflows while minimising the cost of fundraising.
Retain and maximise the relationship with current donors through a planned calendar of strong communications and interactions.
Report regularly to the Head of Fundraising on all fundraising activities and provided post campaign reports on all assigned campaigns and events.
Uphold and strengthen at all time the strong reputation of DSI and ensure creditability and transparency in all activities. At all times working to uphold and strengthen the branding/ image/external messaging of DSI to ensure consistency in the public domain.
Ensuring maximum benefit from DSI CRM system (Champ) by ensuring all interactions with donors are recorded and all relevant information entered, in order that DSI can build an accurate picture of our supporters.
Monitor market changes and trends within the fundraising sector.
Support the communications function in the production of relevant and timely communications with supporters and the press.
Ensure appropriate risk management in relation to assigned fundraising activities.
Maintain confidentiality in relation to DSI’s supporters and ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act

Experience and Knowledge:

Suitable third level qualification
Minimum 3 years’ experience in fundraising and marketing
Experience in fundraising and held a senior position
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
Experience in managing people
Experience with managing volunteers

An understanding and empathy for the issues that DSI seek to address
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Talks with confidence and commitment
Strong networking capabilities, ability to build and maintain relationships internally and externally to the organisation
A Team player with an open and flexible attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
Motivated, with an ability to think creatively and seek opportunities
Ability to manage multiple demands and projects
Flexibility in work arrangements – the role involves out of hours and weekend work
Assertive and confident

Reporting to: Head of Fundraising

Terms: This is a permanent role with a six month probationary period. The salary for this position will be consummate with experience.
