Communications Manager – Down Syndrome Ireland – Dublin

Job Purpose

The Communications Manager will conceptualise, plan and implement the organisation’s internal and external communications.

Main Tasks

Manage the day-to-day internal and external communications and marketing activities of DSI.
Coordinate media activities to promote DSI’s work and fundraising efforts.
Prepare press statements on issues pertaining to DSI’s work for internal and external communications.
Build on existing and develop new relationships with media, politicians, Government, key decision makers and DSI members.
Collaborate with DSI’s Board and senior staff to develop and implement a strategic plan, work plan, budget and evaluation activities for DSI’s Communications.
Drive and coordinate DSI lobbying efforts, proactively seeking opportunities to promote and drive DSI’s agenda.
Deliver a proactive and effective communications program to enhance DSI’s public profile and internal relations.
Develop and Coordinate the means to seek regular input from members and key stakeholders regarding the quality of DSI’s offering and the organisation’s relevance.
Monitor media developments in the charities and disability rights sectors.
Working with both DSI’s Fundraising and National Resource teams, manage the production of impactful and fit-for-purpose publications, web site, social media and merchandise.
Oversee DSI’s digital communication, including content for the website, social media, blogs and e-zines.
Support DSI branches with their communications efforts.
Oversee organisational response to enquiries about DSI and our work.
Work within DSI’s brand guidelines to build and maintain a strong brand for DSI.
Ensure that DSI’s communication outputs are of a high standard, respond to the needs of the target audience, and are delivered within agreed budget and timelines.
Ensure the Board, staff and DSI branches are well briefed on communications strategy and key communications issues.
Co-ordinate and support DSI’s spokespersons who will represent DSI in the media and other relevant occasions.
Act in accordance with the objectives and ethos of DSI.
Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time.

Experience and Knowledge:

Essential

Educated to third level
At least two years’ experience in a communications or public affairs position
Experience of writing press releases, articles and dealing with media nationally and locally
Experience of developing and managing branding and marketing projects

Desirable

A professional qualification in public relations, marketing or something similar
Experience of online communications

Ability to work to tight deadlines
Ability to work well within a small dynamic team
Excellent knowledge of Information and Communication Technology skills

Reporting to: General Manager

Terms: This is a one year appointment with a six month probationary period. The salary for this position will be consummate with experience
