Communications Manager – ICORG – Dublin

The Irish Clinical Oncology Research Group (ICORG) organise cancer clinical trials in Ireland thereby providing patients with an opportunity to gain early access to novel cancer treatments and therapies. ICORG was established 20 years ago and facilitates trials across a number of disease areas – Breast, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Gynaecology, Haematology/Lymphoma, Lung, etc.

The majority of clinical staff working in cancer care are members of ICORG and they meet regularly to look at new research proposals and discuss existing studies. Working closely with international collaborative groups such as ECOG, NSABP and ANZUP, patients in Ireland are uniquely placed to access treatments that are not always available in other jurisdictions. The group has developed strong links with pharmaceutical partners and work closely to attract the best trials into Ireland for Irish patients.

We currently have vacancy for a part time Communications Manager, details of which are outlined below.

Job Title: COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Job Type: 3 days per week – 12 month contract

The Position

The ideal candidate will be an excellent corporate communicator with exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to analyse and translate complex issues into clear and concise messages.

The Communications Manager will play an essential role in supporting the delivery of ICORG’s objectives. They will provide effective and creative communications campaigns within media, government affairs, digital and internal communications activities in line with ICORG’s strategy.

The preferred candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and will have demonstrated the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Applicants should have a degree/post-graduate in communications/public relations, or a related field, and have a minimum of ten years’ experience of working within a Communications function; delivering communication strategies and campaigns. Strong media contacts (particularly health) will be essential. Knowledge and experience of social media will be desirable.

Communications Strategy

In parallel with the development of ICORG’s Strategy for 2020, the Communications Manager will devise and execute a Communications Strategy for the organisation.

Communications Activities

Assist in developing communication strategies to enhance the reputation and profile of ICORG and assist with the execution of external communications policy and strategy
Support the CEO in implementing a rebrand of the organisation
Event management
Develop strong relationships with key media
Manage any PR surrounding report launches or events by ICORG
Develop PR press toolkits for all key PR actions
Improve media monitoring capabilities and services
Support in Identification of specific organisational communication needs and development of recommended responses

Digital Communications

Support the CEO to develop creative ways to engage with key stakeholders
Develop content for  ICORG’s website
Use new media to engage with the media and key stakeholders

Internal Communications

Design and print management of internal communications materials (for members and stakeholders)
Working with Chief Executive to identify and deliver organisational messages
Developing, editing and managing internal newsletters
To assist in the planning of key internal events, workshops and conferences
Support for senior management in the development of their individual internal communications
Periodic measurement of communication effectiveness
