Assistant Cook – Dublin Simon Community

Job Title: Assistant Cook  – Housing Services – (20 Hours Per Week) Fixed Term Contract
Job Purpose: Preparation and cooking of nutritionally balanced meals for residents within guidelines of the service manager and chef ensuring compliance with HACCP standards
Reports to: Service Manager
Location: Housing Services

Core Job Requirements

To engage with and build professional trusting relationships with service users working within the values of Dublin Simon Community.
Assist in planning a schedule of menus promoting nutrition and choice.
Ensure menus are displayed showing choices.
Ensure individuals on special diets or with specific cultural needs are catered for and that choice is also available.
Prepare and cook nutritionally balanced meals daily
Tidy and clean dining room, preparation and serving areas and wash equipment daily
Washing-up of all items used in the kitchen area and maintaining cooking and storage areas in a clean and tidy state in line with cleaning schedules
Order food and other supplies needed to ensure efficient operation
Assist in inventories, stock rotation and supplies
Complete daily, weekly & periodic checking of operational checklists including cleaning, supplier, temperature checks etc
Ensure all HACCP regulations are complied with, including the accurate and correct recording of storage, cooking temperatures, date recording etc
Cleaning and preparation of the kitchen and dining area to ensure a high quality of service is delivered to the residents
Assist in audits of all areas within the kitchen and storage areas to ensure complete adherence to agreed policies
Ensure all equipment is working safely and compliant with manufacturers guidelines for operation reporting any failures to the manager
Assist with stock control procedures in respect of food production, portion control, purchasing and stock management
Undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post and be aware that social activities connected with the service may require work attendance outside normal working hours
Support the manager in the implementation of the strategic and operational action plan

To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or Health & Safety Representative.
To participate in the efficient flow of information within the organisation by sharing and seeking information as appropriate.
To undertake other duties as may be requested by the line manager from time to time.
To undertake your work in a manner that is friendly, flexible and informal.
