The Role
The Assistant Programme Director – Outreach will be responsible to lead, manage, and oversee all aspects of Barretstown’s Outreach programmes. This includes virtual programming, hospitals, schools, community and palliative programmes. They are responsible for the planning, delivery, budgeting, resourcing, and reporting of these programmes. They will drive the development and expansion of the Outreach Department. The Assistant Programme Director – Outreach will maintain existing relationships and seek opportunities to expand on these to further support the growth and awareness of these programmes in hospitals, schools, communities and through the virtual camp experience. They will recruit, coach and mentor direct reports and identify opportunities to increase capacity of the Outreach Team to serve more campers through innovative programming.
This role involves regular travel within Ireland and the UK and flexibility in working days and hours may be required.
Main Responsibilities:
Set annual and strategic targets for Outreach and Virtual Programmes.
Create calendar for all relevant programmes in line with annual objectives.
Deliver and monitor targets and put in place gap closing plans as required.
Manage budget and evaluate opportunities to reduce spend.
Actively contribute to the overall strategy of Barretstown through the MAP Forum.
Identify opportunities to serve more children through outreach programmes and implement new programmes.
Maintain and develop positive working relationship with hospital personnel.
Identify opportunities to promote awareness and engagement of programmes to hospitals, schools and volunteers and put plans in place to execute awareness drives.
Support the Programme Director in establishing a space in the New Children’s Hospital.
Liaise with parents, campers, schools, and volunteers to plan and facilitate School Outreach Programmes & School to Camp Programmes.
Oversee the development of the School to Camp Programme as an established Outreach programme.
Plan and facilitate hospital outreach programmes (HOP) in various locations around Ireland and the UK ensuring programming is TR (Therapeutic Recreation) centred and engaging.
Oversee the virtual camp programmes to be delivered through Barretstown Live and Social Media channels.
Oversee Sourcing and ordering of supplies for activity kits.
Carry out programme evaluations each season.
Train staff on operating procedures for the studios and for filming content.
Coach and develop direct report, set regular 1-1’s and provide ongoing feedback.
Manage the completion and submission of documentation required by hospitals and schools in line with GDPR.
Present monthly reports on Programmes.
Work with the Staff Recruitment Department to recruit volunteers.
Oversee, manage, and support the volunteers in programme delivery in conjunction with HR.
Maintain and update all Outreach and Virtual Policies and Procedures.
Work with the Hospital Outreach Programmes Steering Group to support and assist the development of HOP research.
Be an active member of the Serious Fun Children’s Network sharing resources and supporting Outreach Programmes where possible (e.g., fellowship programme, peer visits, conference presentations etc.).

Essential Criteria
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A demonstrable understanding of how to deliver high levels of customer service and care.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to work in line with Barretstown’s core values and behaviours at all times.
Full driving license
Desirable Criteria
Experience in facilitating Therapeutic Recreation programmes.
Camp programme experience desirable but not essential.
