Behaviour Therapist – Malta Services Drogheda

Job Purpose
The Behaviour Therapist will conduct comprehensive functional assessments to deliver individualized positive behaviour support to the person.
All Assessments and interventions will focus on improving the person’s repertoire of competencies and behaviours which in turn will enhance the person’s quality of life.
Promote positive behaviour support to the person, staff and families in relation to behaviours of concern. To support and maintain behavioural change, the Behaviour Therapist will develop strategies for supporting the person, staff and families through training and support groups.
A vital role of the Behaviour Therapist is related to the education and training of staff with specific reference to the core concepts of positive behaviour support and the implementation of behaviour support plans for individual Service users.
To assist individuals, staff and families to understand and address needs and preferences communicated through behaviours of concern.
To inform and develop policies related to Positive behaviour support that are person centred and embrace individuality.
The recommended broad parametres of employment for this post are:
Education:
A relevant undergraduate degree in health service areas (Psychology, social Care Nursing)

Experience:
Experience of working with Adults with Intellectual Disabilities across social care services is essential.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in behaviour support roles to enable an individual with Intellectual Disabilities to achieve personal outcomes and gain valued social roles in their communities.
Experience of carrying out functional assessments and supporting frontline teams to implement positive behaviour support strategies.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and team facilitation skills.
Excellent written communication and report writing skills.
Passion and desire to support people with disabilities and make positive changes.
Up to date knowledge of current best practice related to positive behaviour support, person centred planning and individual service design.
