Community Grantwriter – St Stephen’s Green Trust

Overall Job Purpose:
To provide a part-time Community Grantwriter role that provides an easily accessible and practical resource to community & voluntary organisations in the NSP area. Specific indicators include:

Increase the income of the community and voluntary organisations through various fundraising measures, with a focus on increasing grant income.
Support improvements in organisational and financial structures and procedures in local groups to sustain the increase in income on a permanent basis.
Assist organisations to develop relationships with funders and collaborative networks locally.
Provide an individualised service to organisations seeking grants, undertaking the practical work required to support their funding applications.

Main Responsibilities include:
Meet regularly and communicate with groups to gain an understanding of their operations and funding needs and challenges. This involves liaising and collaborating with the NSP local development team.
Research into grants available for the groups and provide advice on the best strategy to achieve their goals, either in terms of overall income or service/project development.
Prepare grant applications or support staff in the preparation of grant applications
Prepare/ provide input into the funder progress reports and ensure compliance with their procedures and rules regarding drawdown of funds granted.
Develop relationships with commercial organisations with a view to linking them up with appropriate groups for sponsorship, donations (financial or in-kind).
Develop relationships with other funders (statutory and philanthropic)
Support the development of direct relationships between the groups and funders, in order to effect sustainable development.
Research, advice and supporting fundraising events (being directly involved in fundraising is not part of the role).
Keep up to date on the relevant sector community & voluntary sector governance, organisational development and funding issues. Coordinate with the NSP officer with responsibility for supporting organisations on governance.
Knowledge & Experience

The successful candidate will have:
A relevant third level qualification and / or 3-5 years experience working in the area of finance and administration.
Knowledge and experience of the community and voluntary sector in a paid or voluntary capacity.
A high level of understanding of finance and audited accounts. Ability to support organisations to develop budgets and implement financial management systems (at all levels).
Excellent report writing skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Self motivated and ability to work on own with little supervision
Approachable, outgoing and friendly personality
IT literate including a high proficiency in Word, Excel and internet abilities
A track record in successfully applying for grants and previous fundraising desirable
Ability and experience of meeting deadlines.
Understanding of and adherence to community development principles and practice.
The ability to build relationships with relevant stakeholders.

The ability to work flexibly within the role and attend evening meetings as appropriate to the needs of the job.
The successful candidate will be employed by St Stephen’s Green Trust but seconded to the Northside Partnership and be mainly based in Kilbarrack, Dublin 5.
Job Details: The position is mainly located in the NSP office in Kilbarrack but the successful applicant may also be required to work from the NSP Coolock office. It will be a 2 year contract, subject to annual funding. This is a flexible position with an average of 1.5 days a week, with an expectation that up to 2 days a week can be worked during busy periods. May suit a self-employed consultant or someone interested in a term-time position.

This is a senior position and the successful candidate will be expected to be a self starter with enthusiasm and drive. Salary will be commensurate with experience, in the region of €43,000 to €47,000 (pro-rata). Informal enquiries are welcome to Orla O’Neill on 045-480666.
