Conference Assistant Internship – Front Line Defenders – Blackrock, Co Dublin

Front Line Defenders – The International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders invites applications for a paid 3½ month Conference Assistant Internship position (10th August – 20th November 2015) to assist with the preparations for the Eighth Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders, which will take place in Dublin Castle, from the 4th – 6th November 2015. This is an exciting time to join the Front Line Defender’s team as the event will bring together 100 human rights defenders, from over 90 different countries, and 150 additional guests from a host of national and international organisations for a 3 day conference to discuss relevant issues affecting human rights defenders at risk.

The successful Conference Assistant Internship candidate will have excellent clerical and computer skills, as well as practical experience in an administrative role. He/she must be able to work in English and a second language would be advantageous (preferably French, but Spanish, Arabic and/or Russian would also be beneficial). The candidate will be able to work on their own initiative and as a member of a small team. He/ she will be able to demonstrate their ability to work effectively and efficiently in a high pressure environment. He/she will have proven organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. Ideally the candidate will be able to draw on previous event management experience and his/ her focus on attention to detail will be strong. He/she will be flexible, hard-working and enthusiastic to embrace this role working with human rights defenders at risk.

Basic Terms of Reference:

Assist with the planning and coordination of the Eighth Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders, side-events and meetings;
Liaise with conference participants before, during and immediately after the conference;
Liaise with service providers before, during and immediately after the conference;
Support travelling participants with their travel arrangements and visa applications;
Assist with the recruitment and support of a team of volunteers;
Undertake clerical tasks such as faxing, photocopying, word processing, data entry, collating, emailing and filing;

This position will be based in Front Line Defender’s office in Blackrock, Co. Dublin.

Honorarium: €1100 per month.
