Director of Policy & Research (Part-Time) – Mental Health Ireland

Purpose
To develop and lead a coherent and coordinated policy and research programme that supports Mental Health Ireland to grow its influence and visibility in matters pertaining to mental health, wellbeing & recovery, To establish, promote and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including public representatives, policy makers and other external agencies;

POSITION SUMMARY
Ireland’s National Mental Health Policy, Sharing the Vision places a special emphasis on the promotion of positive mental health. MHI aims to be the lead national agency in promoting positive mental health and wellbeing. This is a key objective in our national strategy ‘Empowerment from Ideas to Action 2019-2021’.
Leading the Policy and Research function at Mental Health Ireland the successful candidate will contribute to the strategic development and delivery of MHI’s strategy. They will also develop and lead a coherent and coordinated policy and research programme that supports MHI in informing and influencing public policy. The person will work to share and disseminate findings through papers, conferences, submissions, webinars, training materials and in collaboration with MHI’s partners.
Working with people with lived experience, the Director of Research & Policy will co-produce policy positions to inform our work well targeted research reports, policy briefings, blogs and other material of a similar nature.

THE PERSON
The person we are looking for will have a passion for mental health and wellness. They will possess strong management and leadership skills, experience in strategic planning, innovation and development with specific skills in areas including mental health promotion, staff development, project initiation and management, training, change management and population health.
They will also have experience in research and evaluation and be capable engaging with policy makers, academics, thought leaders and international peers and be able to translate best practice and new emerging evidence into robust initiatives that will be reflected in the provision of mental health care and related supports in Ireland.

Conditions of employment:
This is a two year fixed term contract position subject to funding and completion of a probationary period.
Flexibility is required regarding hours as some weekend and evening work may be necessary. Travel and out of office work will also be a feature of the role.
Salary: €65,812 to €76,720 over a seven point pay scale including two long service increments of three years each which is commensurate with HSE Grade VIII (April 2017)
Hours of Work: 15 hours per week
Annual Leave: 13 days per annum
