Role Specifics:
This is a ‘live-in’ role and operates over a 14 day cycle, which consist of has 6 nights at work, followed by 8 nights off.
The day to day routine depends largely on the children and their needs. Your work is supported by other staff e.g. activity therapists, who are on-site typically 9am to 10pm, and responsible for the young person(s) during that time.
Activity therapists may, for example, take young people to engage in activities at the nearby farm, which has a kitchen and office / common room and games room. This means that, generally, house pedagogues are working 5.00pm until bed-time, then breakfast in the morning. There is other work to be completed during the days, such as community meetings, professional meetings, training etc. but these are kept to a minimum. The aim is provide a normal home experience for the children and young people.
Competencies:
Qualification in Social Pedagogy, Pedagogy, Social Work, Social Care or branch thereof [Level 8].
Knowledge of Irish Residential Care Standards
Passion for delivering best practice to children and young people in care
Able to be a positive role model
Willingness and ability to live in for part of the time
Willingness and apply social pedagogic principals and ways of working
Empathy and awareness
Able to manage resources, staff and facilities on site
Desirable:
Passion for delivering best practice to children and young people in care
Interest in active outdoor pursuits that engage young people
Experience working with children and young people with challenging behaviour in a residential home or foster setting desirable
Adaptability and flexibility, creativity and initiative
Ability to work effectively with team members and management
