Live Night Workers x 2 – Fairgreen Hostel – COPE Galway

The Fairgreen Hostel is an established emergency accommodation service run by COPE Galway. It provides a range of services for single homeless men in Galway city.

Purpose of this position:
Along with Residential Hostel Worker, to have overall responsibility for the homeless service at night time ensuring essential health and safety standards are maintained within the building, guidelines, policies and procedures and the needs of the residents and clients that are met. The post holder will work alongside Residential Hostel Worker colleagues who will be on sleepover shifts and so available on call within the hostel building from midnight to 8am.

Provide live/waking night cover as set out in service work rosters.
To ensure a safe, welcoming and friendly environment is established and maintained
To participate fully in the morning and evening handovers to staff coming on duty.
To engage with and record interactions with rough sleepers that may present during the night for accommodation or a sleeping bag or HMP.
Attend a minimum of one staff meeting a month to ensure you have an opportunity to discuss client welfare and behaviour and contribute to the development of service.
Work some short weekend day shifts in order that you can continue to develop relationship with clients and have interaction with colleagues during day duties.
Work positively and effectively as a member of a team
The ideal candidate will have a proven interest in the area of homelessness. One year’s experience of working homeless men is a minimum entry requirement for the role.

Requirements include;
A third level qualification in a social care or related field
A demonstrated ability to work in a safe, respectful and professional manner and attitude with adult clients who may have mental health or / and addiction issues
Good written and oral communication skills and have good skills in communicating both verbally and recorded events during the night in the handover to the morning staff
