Job Purpose:
The role will be to work as part of the Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) Healthcare Programmes (HCP) Team and support and deliver the work of IHF, with a core emphasis on the delivery of end-of-life care training and workshops for hospitals. The primary focus of the role is Final Journeys train the trainer training and the secondary focus is to support outreach linked to the Hospice Friendly Hospitals (HFH) Programme. The post holder will have a background in health and/or social sciences and experience in working in the health sector.
Responsibilities:
IHF is open to applications from candidates who have experience in most but not all of the following areas. The successful candidate will be supported through their induction to increase their knowledge and ability to deliver on the responsibilities outlined here. Further training and ongoing support will be available.
Training:
Co-ordinate the Final Journeys train the trainer programme including roll out and delivery of workshops and training both online and in person and provide Final Journeys facilitator support
Provide other training as required e.g. Breaking Bad News
Support the evaluation of training and workshops delivered through collation of metrics and data, and generate reports, briefings, presentations and updates as required.
Outreach:
Support the capacity building of HFH as indicated by Work Programme.
Support the work of the HFH/HSE Joint Oversight group:
Represent interests of hospitals which do not have an EOLC Coordinator in post
Contribute to planning of meetings
Contribute to subsequent work projects/planning for group
Support the induction of newly appointed EOLC Coordinators and also support the implementation of these posts in hospitals via the hospital EOLC committee.
Foster relationships with HFH champions and End of Life Care committees in HFH hospitals.
Attendance at EOLC Committee meetings.
Link with chairperson of EOLC Committees regularly for transfer of information
Support hospital EOLC committees to raise awareness within their hospitals of HFH programme, progress, education events, resources available and quality improvement projects etc.
Explore and develop opportunities for HFH quality improvement initiatives.
Work with IHF team, EOLC Coordinator network, HFH acute network, EOLC Committees and HFH/HSE JOG to identify projects based on issues arising within hospitals.
Work closely with HFH Team Lead to support the work of HFH programme, support organisation and management of:
HFH/HSE Joint Oversight Group
HFH QI Awards
The 4 HFH Networks: Acute hospital network, EOLC Coordinator network, maternity and paediatric network
Provide support and routine updates of work to line manager, including generating reports, information materials, abstract proposals, and articles to support dissemination of work.

Qualifications and Experience
Proven training programme development and delivery, workshop facilitation and project management skills (at least five years’ experience)
Proven service development, quality improvement initiatives and project management skills (at least two years’ experience)
Reasonable understanding of the relevance of good end-of-life care in hospital settings and appreciation of the issues related to dying, death and bereavement, especially for staff
An understanding of the relevance of palliative care for adults and children
Ability to communicate and support training around delivering bad news
Knowledge and familiarity of the relevant HSE clinical care programmes; acute, residential and primary care health structures; professional organisations and patient groups which are instrumental in the delivery of services for people with life limiting disease
Excellent oral and written communications, and presentation skills
Terms and Conditions
This is a full-time, fixed term contract for one year with a view to longer term, reporting to a Team Lead (initially to the Acting Head of Healthcare). The role will be based at the IHF’s offices on Nassau Street, Dublin 2. In light of the recent lifting of government guided restrictions, a phased return to office based work is taking place. A hybrid working structure which combines office and home-based work will be introduced over the coming period.
The post holder will be required to travel outside Dublin, and must have a clean driver’s licence and access to a car.
The annual gross salary for this role is circa €40-€45k, depending on experience and fit.
