In School Service – Programme Overview –
This service is a school-based programme that operates at both primary and post primary levels in the Ballymun area. The focus of this service is to support and work closely with students who would, for a number of factors, be at risk of early school leaving.
Work on a one to one or small group basis with pupils who have been identified as being at risk of leaving school early;
Empower young people by developing programmes that support interpersonal skills, self-awareness , resilience and coping strategies;
Co-ordinate a structured caring approach within the school whilst complementing existing structures;
Provide support and advocacy for the target young person
Develop personalised programmes for targeted young people who are experiencing ongoing challenges in school and are at risk of/on suspension;
Foster links between students, parents and school in conjunction with Home School Liaison;
Access appropriate resources/agencies
Job Description – Key responsibilities
To assist in the implementation of the BEST SCP project as outlined in the 2021-22 Retention Plan submitted to the Tusla, Child and Family Agency.;
To further the aims of Ballymun Educational Support Team SCP (BEST SCP) by participating in the development/delivery of child centred personal development programmes with a view to tacking early school leaving;
To work within the Schools and liaise with the staff of schools, voluntary and statutory agencies as assigned by the Project Manager and outlined in the programme of work;
To undertake whatever training and attend whatever meetings which might be considered appropriate by the Project Manager;
To furnish whatever reports/accounts required.
Person Specification
Qualification
Essential: A degree level qualification in Psychology, Applied Social Care/Social Studies, Education, Youth Work, or an equivalent qualification.
Experience
Essential A minimum of three years post graduate experience in the provision of services for children at risk;
Desirable
Additional post graduate qualifications in a relevant field. Experience in developing and delivering innovative child centred programmes;
Core Competencies
Essential:
Ability to support the ongoing positive development of young people presenting with personal, social and emotional needs;
Ability to support young people’s positive engagement in education;
Ability to relate well with people, to have good communication skills;
Ability to work as part of a team and to develop effective working relationships with other services within the community;
Ability to provide for the administrative need
