Business Development Executive – ActionAid – Dublin

Overview:

Established in 1983 ActionAid Ireland is a development charity that works to end poverty and injustice. As part of ActionAid International we work in 45+ countries to help people achieve their rights: to food, water, healthcare, education and the means to earn a living. ActionAid Ireland’s particular focus is on promoting women’s’ rights and on education. We support communities in Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, Kenya, Uganda and Malawi.

ActionAid Ireland is looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about human rights and international development to join our small team as Business Development Executive.

The successful candidate will play a significant role in the growth and impact of ActionAid over the coming years. With a strong and practical understanding of how we work, the role will help build existing and new supporter relationships, grow annual income for ActionAid Ireland (with unrestricted income being a priority) and help expand the impact of our work.

Responsibilities:

1. Set business development strategy and plans

• Working closely with the Head of Fundraising, develop a fundraising strategy which builds on AA Ireland’s work and record as a leading agency in the development sector

• Draw up and implement an operational plan to meet income targets and the expenditure budget over time

• Develop relevant key performance indicators to help track and manage performance
2. Knowledge and Understanding of ActionAid’s work

• Develop a strong working knowledge of the key programme areas, the human rights based approach to development, and the impact of ActionAid’s work

• Build relationships with ActionAid programme colleagues in Ireland and internationally

• Manage donor communications, specifically annual update reports from programme areas to Ireland based supporters
3. Research Opportunities

• Analyse and research the market place and target specific audiences that align with ActionAid Ireland’s work areas and values

• Identify and research prospects making use of ActionAid Ireland’s existing database and identify suitable partnerships

• Identify market opportunities and develop suitable and profitable relationship ideas for corporates and other groups/networks to help gain direct access to their support as well as their customers and staff support
4. Manage Business approaches and relations

• Coordinate and lead business development approaches; create and follow through on developing compelling proposals for organisations to support ActionAid Ireland’s work

• Make and facilitate presentations to potential supporters

• Cultivate multi-layered partnerships that engages customers, staff, suppliers, and management of organisations to leverage mutually beneficial outcomes for both partners

• Develop and implement ongoing relationship management plans
5. A key member of Fundraising, Communications and Campaigns team

• With team ensure delivery of key supporter updates within budget and on time

• Work with team to deliver a number of key supporter events annually

• Communicate on initiatives to internal and external audiences as appropriate

• Work with fundraising leadership team to develop integrated campaigns where appropriate to help deliver the overall targets of the fundraising department

• Build relationships and supports with ActionAid International colleagues to maximise development opportunities

• Share AA Ireland’s values, participate as a full member of the ActionAid Ireland team and support activities across the organisation.

Essential Criteria:

• 2 years relevant experience of corporate fundraising / sales development / marketing

• Excellent interpersonal skills to network and build relationships successfully

• Proven track record of developing business sales

• Strategic planning skills and strong creative ability

• Excellent communication and report writing skills

• Knowledge of the charity market and the development world

• Hold a relevant third level qualification

• Have a positive outlook and approach

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
