Aim of the role: To develop and promote evidence-based policy proposals to further Crosscare Migrant Project’s policy priorities, manage existing policy projects and provide support to the information and advocacy team.
Reports to: Project Leader
Contract: 3 days per week, fixed-term contract for 10 months starting April/May 2015 (potential to increase days and be extended subject to funding)
Responsibilities:
Develop specific, practical policy proposals based on research findings for presentation to policy makers
Produce policy submissions and research papers
Monitor and analyse trends from our information & advocacy services
Conduct lobbying and campaigning on issues related to the our policy objectives
Liaise with government officials, politicians and policy makers on key policy issues
Represent us at policy forums, conferences and in the media
Monitor the policy environment as it relates to the our work
Develop a framework to evaluate and review policy activities
Work as part of a team, engaging in team meetings, supervision, review and planning sessions
Promote positive working relationships with external organisations
Maintain Crosscare confidentiality at all times, following policies and procedures, and data protection legislation

Qualification/Skills Requirements
Essential Job skills / experience / qualifications required:
Degree / post-graduate qualification in social sciences or equivalent
Ability to conduct research and develop practical policy proposals
Ability to understand how policies impact on the ground
Strong writing/editing skills
Experience with social media
Commitment to Social Justice and a rights-based approach
Self starter with ability to work well under own initiative and as part of a team
Desirable experience:
Project/research management experience
Volunteer/line management experience
Experience working on Irish emigrant issues
Experience of migration-related issues and trends
Experience of promoting policy changes to elected representatives and senior officials
Knowledge of social welfare policies and legislation
Personal Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Organisational skills
IT Skills (MS Office essential, social media/website skills desirable)
Remuneration: Salary scale starts at €34,351 (pro rata)
