QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum qualification at Level 6 in Montessori Teaching or Early Childhood Education and Care and 2 to 3 years relevant experience in a Montessori position. The person should be highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated. They must be passionate about and committed to delivering the highest possible standard of Montessori.
The successful candidate must have a natural fondness for working with children in a creche environment and be a team player. Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate & Garda Vetting. Knowledge of the two national frameworks, Aistear & Síolta is desirable.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Experience working in an early childhood setting
The ability to design & implement a Montessori curriculum
Experience working with persons from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the children and program
Comprehensive knowledge of Child Protection policy.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Assist in the creation of a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of children with an emphasis on language development and emergent literacy skills.
To ensure the safety and well-being of the children in your care and to implement and adhere to the standards and policies laid down by management and the Childcare Regulations.
To have excellent leadership skills and to be a positive role model and support to other staff.
Keep records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered.
Required to attend regular meetings to discuss curriculum, activities and child development.
Interact with the children in a way which conveys respect and nurturing.
Support the social and emotional development of children.
Read to children, and teach them simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.
Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games.
Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning, dishwashing, sanitizing toys and play equipment and changing of linens.
Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children.
Attend to the personal hygiene of each child in your care, including changing soiled clothing, potty training and washing hands.
Assist in the cleaning and straightening of the child care rooms at the end of the day, as well as putting away any outside equipment
Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.
Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family and encourage their involvement in the program
Continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences and other staff development team meetings
Demonstrate behaviour that is professional, ethical, and responsible
To be on time to work and to let manager know 2 hours in advance if you will be absent.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Childcare Management team.
Ensure each child’s safety at all times.
Communicate with parents.
Work as part of a team.
Work with a core group of children in presenting Montessori materials and monitoring their development.
Setting up and Clearing away of rooms each day.
Weekly cleaning of equipment
Circle time presentations.
Planning for children’s individual and group learning needs.
Flexibility is needed as extra duties may be required at times.
Implementation of Early Years Regulations, Aistear, Síolta and any other relevant legislation.
