The University of Dublin, Trinity College, invites applications for the Professor of German (1776), the oldest Chair of German in the world. This post is of international standing with previous holders including eminent scholars who have provided national and international leadership in the discipline. In making this appointment, the College is reaffirming its commitment to the role of languages in the humanities, and to the central role of the humanities in realising the academic and societal goals of a 21stcentury university. The successful candidate will have a doctorate in a German Studies-related discipline and an outstanding research record. S/he will have strong disciplinary roots and an outward-looking interdisciplinary orientation as well as a demonstrable record of leading development in their field. The Professors research leadership will find expression in publication and other forms of representation, in a record of curriculum design and innovation
