Support Worker – Dublin Simon Community

Minimum job requirements:
A recognized third level qualification to minimum diploma level in one of the following disciplines: social work, social care, psychology or community development.
Understanding of why and how people become homeless and the needs they have in order to exit their situation of homelessness.
Full or part time experience working in a social or care setting.
Record keeping and report writing skills
Ability and willingness to work a variety of shifts

Preferred job requirements:
Health & Safety training
Driving Licence or willingness to acquire one
Experience of assisting in the implementation of care plans
Knowledge of accommodation services in the Homeless Sector
12 months full time experience working in a care environment.

About the job:
This role is an exciting opportunity for any individual committed to working in a social or care setting. We are a committed organisation involved in a range of services including Emergency Services, Treatment Services and Housing Services. As a Support Worker on a Flexible contract you’ll have the opportunity to work across the full spectrum of services. Staff who have undertaken this role in the past have gone on to take up roles as support worker in a set service or project worker posts in a range of services in the organisation. These staff report that the best parts of the Flexi role is the chance to work in a number of different work environments and the continued opportunity for the development of skills. You’ll report to the Flexi Service Manager. As well as our induction program, you will be provided with 10 training days throughout the year, ensuring you have the support and training to succeed in this role.

Responsibilities:
Building professional, trustful relationships with all service users and residents. Treating all service users and residents with dignity and respect.
Assist in the running of the projects and services by ensuring that all household duties are completed in a timely and consistent manner. Ensuring that each service and project is maintained to the highest possible standard. This may include ensuring that physical needs such as bathing and washing clothing are carried out.
Support the maintenance of the health and safety of each building and the service users / residents in that building. To abide by standard operating procedures relating to: fire safety, hazard management, building checks, sharps disposal and management of challenging behaviour.
Ensure the Health, Safety and Welfare of families is prioritised at all times within services.
Contribute to the creation of care plans for service users / residents. Work with the staff teams to help the service user / resident achieve the goals set out in their care plans.
Assist with basic living skills and provide interventions which prepare families to move into independent living.
Engaging with staff teams, support colleagues on shift, participate in team meetings as required and being open to reasonable requests from the teams and Service Managers in order to ensure effective working relationships.
Liaise with a range of service providers in the voluntary and public sectors (e.g. housing providers, health care professionals & social welfare). To establish and expand the services available to service users and residents to meet their physical and mental health needs. To advocate for rights and entitlements.
Work within the policies of the Dublin Simon Community; both organisation-wide and project specific in order to ensure that a high quality standard is established and maintained at all times.
Ensure families adhere to terms and conditions of agreements relating to the family hub and be alerted to any situation or behaviour which may result in breaches of this agreement in line with policies and procedures of Simon.
Work in conjunction with Part-Time and Full-Time Volunteers for the delivery of this service. To provide leadership and mentoring to volunteers where appropriate.
Ensure services and projects are compliant with organisational policies, procedures and guidelines in the following areas: Fire Safety, Confidentiality, Child Protection, Data Protection, Admissions, Case Management and Disengagement. To immediately raise concerns to the appropriate person / persons should any breaches be observed.
Operate according to Dublin Simons Code of Conduct and Charter of Rights and Responsibilities with children, and operate child protection guidelines as appropriate.
Carry out all administrative duties such as: managing petty cash, record keeping (electronic), record keeping (paper), filing, answering the phone to services and to the public, etc.
Location: Primarily based in the Family Hub, Gormanston. Co. Meath. All other Dublin Simon Community services as needed.
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week. 25 days annual leave.
