Description: The intern will gain practical experience in the application of Asylum, Immigration and Social Welfare Law. The intern will gain experience in the delivery of legal information clinics. The intern will receive formal/informal training in the following: aspects of asylum and immigration law and policy, drafting applications, submissions and letters to the Department of Justice and other relevant bodies. On completion the intern will have attained skills in one to one advocacy, practical application of aspects of asylum and immigration law and policy, social welfare law and policy, advocating on behalf of clients and legal advocacy.

Skills Requirements: Strong Interpersonal Skills. Flexibility and ability to work under pressure. Strong verbal and written ability in English. Good intercultural communication skills. Understand of ethical and confidentiality issues. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office. Commitment to social justice and human rights. Enthusiastic and motivated. Ability to work as part of a team under close supervision and on own initiative. Strong time management skills.

Mentor: The Organisation will assign a mentor to support you during the Internship.

Duration: Full time for 9 Months

Education Requirements: Third Level – Law Degree (please include results on CV). Graduates with knowledge of refugee law, human rights law, public international law and international humanitarian law are encouraged to apply.

Location: Cork City

Please note: This is an Internship. An allowance of €50 per week will be paid in addition to your current Social Welfare payment. Applicants should ensure that they are eligible for the JobBridge Scheme.
