Le Chéile Mentoring and Youth Justice Support Services was established in 2005 to provide a mentoring service to children and young people aged 12-21 years referred by the Courts to Young Persons Probation. Young Person’s Probation (YPP) is a division of the Probation Service working with young people under 18 years of age, who come before the Courts.Le Chéile works in close collaboration with YPP nationally.
Le Chéile was set up fulfil the Mentor (Family support) Order under the requirements of the Children Act 2001. Le Chéile has since expanded nationally to provide a holistic wrap around service for young people and their families involvedwith the justice system.
Such services include parent and youth mentoring, family support and restorative justice services. Le Chéile seeks to empower communities to deal with issues such as crime by recruiting, training and supporting local volunteers who assist and support a young person involved with the justice system, to reduce their offending behaviour, achieve their full potential, and to support their families.
Le Chéile is a child-centred, non-judgemental service which works restoratively with all stakeholders. Le Chéile has embraced restorative practices throughout the services nationally and has committed to training volunteers and staff and stakeholders.
Le Chéile is Irish for “together” – we believe people can achieve more when they work together. Initially established in North County Dublin, the service has since been expanded to cover the eastern, midlands, south eastern and south western regions. In 2015 Le Chéile celebrates its 10th anniversary.
Le Chéile has decided to commission an independent evaluation of the youth and parent mentoring services. Full tender document is attached below.
