Fettercairn Community and Youth Centre (FCYC) is a community facility for the use of the people of Fettercairn and surrounding areas. Its remit is: to the relief of poverty, social exclusion and to strive to improve the economic life of the area of Fettercairn. To facilitate maximum participation of all in the community, taking into account the needs of young people, parents, people with disabilities, senior citizens and any other group with special needs.

Key responsibilities
The Afterschool Homework group coordinator will be given a school term contract that will coincide with Saint Anne’s nation school Fettercairn school term and will finish on the last day of the school term 2018. It must be understood however, that if the position becomes redundant at any time during the period of the contract or if the funding for the post is discontinued or a post holder fails to perform satisfactorily, employment may be terminated.

The duties of the coordinator are:
To supervise all paid and voluntary staff on a daily basis.
Ensure that all relevant policies and procedures are adhered to.
Plan program of activities for participants.
Work directly with the participants in relation to homework and activities.
Any other relevant duties which your line manager or board of directors shall deem necessary for the effective running of the afterschool homework group.

Professional Qualifications and Experience (E) = Essential, (D) = Desirable
Education requirements; teaching or equivalent qualification (D)
Minimum of one years’ experience (one school year) of working with children. (E)
Good understanding of working with young people (E)
Personal specification

Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with young people(E)
Good interpersonal skills, including ability to liaise with a wide range of contacts and build and maintain effective working relationships (E)
Excellent standards of accuracy and attention to detail (E)
Ability to be proactive, use own initiative and work effectively within a pressurised environment (E)
Positive and flexible approach to working as part of a team
Good communications skills, including ability to draft summary information and correspondence, good report writing skills (E)
Good Staff management skills (E)
Good computer skills, including Word, Excel, Internet, PowerPoint and Social Media (E)
Requirements for all Fettercairn Community and Youth Centre staff

To act consistently in a professional manner at all times (E)
To participate in regular supervision with your line manager (E)
Flexibility in relation to hours of work to meet the needs of the work. Work during unsocial hours may be required. (E)
Identify training needs with your line manager and participate in training opportunities appropriate to the role (E)
To undertake other duties as may be requested by your line manager or others nominated from time to time by Fettercairn Community and Youth Centre Board of directors (E)
Additional Considerations for the Role

Funding: It must be understood that if the funding for the post is discontinued the post holder’s contract may be terminated.

Medical: The successful candidate may be required to complete a medical questionnaire / undergo a pre-employment medical.

Garda vetting: As our work involves contact with young people, candidates under consideration for employment in Fettercairn Community and Youth Centre will be subject to Garda vetting.

References: The successful candidate will undergo 2 reference checks before commencing employment with Fettercairn Community and Youth Centre.

Annual Leave: The Youth Officer will be entitled to 20days annual leave pro rata plus public holidays. All holidays will be taken to coincide with school term holidays.

Hours of work: The Coordinator will be expected to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. The position will require flexibility in relation to working hours.

Salary: will be commensurate with experience.

Base: The post will be based Fettercairn Community and Youth Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
