The Role
As the Assistant Cook you will work in the preparation and cooking of nutritionally balanced meals for residents within guidelines of the service manager and chef ensuring compliance with HACCP standards.
Your core responsibilities include:
Engage with and build professional trusting relationships with service users working within the values of Dublin Simon Community.
Assist in planning a schedule of menus promoting nutrition and choice.
Ensure menus are displayed showing choices.
Ensure individuals on special diets or with specific cultural needs are catered for and that choice is also available.
Prepare and cook nutritionally balanced meals daily
Tidy and clean dining room, preparation and serving areas and wash equipment daily
Washing-up of all items used in the kitchen area and maintaining cooking and storage areas in a clean and tidy state in line with cleaning schedules.
Order food and other supplies needed to ensure efficient operation
Assist in inventories, stock rotation and supplies
Complete daily, weekly & periodic checking of operational checklists including cleaning, supplier, temperature checks etc
What You Need
To become the Assistant Cook you will need previous experience working in a food environment with knowledge of diet in relation to dietary related conditions such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease amongst other conditions. You will also require a basic food hygiene certificate, NVQ II in food preparation or equivalent and previous food safety/HACCP training.
