The Organisation:

Cheeverstown is a charitable / voluntary organisation. Through its operating company Cheeverstown House Ltd (Cheeverstown House) it provides residential and day services to people with intellectual disability. Cheeverstown House is a Section 38 organisation, providing services on behalf of the State under a Service Level Agreement with the Health Services Executive; it is regulated by HIQA.

Cheeverstown House provides its services in a campus setting in South Dublin; a number of community houses in the local area; as well as independent supported living for people.  Cheeverstown House also operates a number of day centres in Tallaght.

The Board adopted a person centred approach to service delivery approximately a decade ago. The Board is committed to implementing the National Disability Strategy and the recommendations arising from the Congregate Settings Report, subject to the availability of funding.

Cheeverstown House provides services to almost 400 people and employs 400+ employees.

The Position:

On the retirement of the Chief Executive earlier this year the Board decided to take the opportunity to appoint an interim Chief Executive who as well as taking responsibility for the day to day operation of the House was been tasked with reviewing the way in which the House operates. This temporary assignment ends in early November and the Board now wishes to make a long term appointment.

The Chief Executive will report to the Board of the House, with a principal reporting relationship to the Chair of the Board. The employment contract will be for 5 years with a probation period of six months.

Remuneration and benefits will be commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities of the Chief Executive:

The Chief Executive will report to the Board and will have a close working relationship with the Chair.

The responsibilities will be agreed from time to time with the Chair, as circumstances require, but will include:

Provision of strong and dedicated leadership to the Cheeverstown House community
Development and updating of the Strategic Plan and delivery on the objectives and policies as defined by the Board
Meeting the needs of the people who use our service,  who always have primacy
Managing relationships with other stakeholders of Cheeverstown House
Preparation and presentation of the annual budget and performance against same
Ensuring that Cheeverstown House operates in compliance with law, the requirements of the Regulator,  its obligations under the Service Level Agreement with the HSE and the Policies approved by the Board
Relationships with sources of funding, State and other
Reporting to the Board

The Person:

The successful candidate will be a proven leader and will have experience of managing in a complex organisation with a number of stakeholders and with competing needs.

He/she is likely to have worked in the disability / voluntary sector and will be able to demonstrate a passion for improving the quality of life of persons whose care they have been entrusted with.

The successful candidate may possess the following characteristics:

A relevant third level qualification
Project management experience with evidence of results
Experience in team building, staff training and development
Knowledge, comfort and familiarity with modern technology, especially as it relates to information management and control systems
Strong inter-personal and relationship building skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
A commitment to personal development
Financial literacy

Following a review of applications, a number of candidates will be invited for first interview by a sub-committee of the Board;  it is envisaged that these interviews will be completed by September 25th.

Arising from the first interviews a short list will be developed who will be invited to meet again with the sub-committee and the Chairman.
