Counsellor (Sessional Basis) – Sunbeam House Services

The counsellor will provide counselling sessions to service users of SHS. Counselling will enable service users to identify their feelings, learn how to express themselves, communicate more effectively and learn how to contain and work through difficult feelings. It also assists in helping develop life-coping skills and to achieve their goals and objectives.

Counsellors will undertake counselling sessions via the SHS Social Work Department and in conjunction with Client Services Managers and Keyworkers

Applicants Must:
Have a recognised Level 8 qualification (QQI) in counselling, or psychotherapy recognised by one of the following, as appropriate: , the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), a relevant body within the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) or the Irish Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (IABCP).
Have received training from an institute where the counselling course is accredited with one of the recognised accrediting bodies e.g. IACP, IAHP, IAAC and where participation in personal counselling or therapy was a course requirement.
Have full accredited membership with one of the following: IACP, IABCP or a relevant body within ICP
Have a minimum of two years’ experience of managing a case load post accreditation/registration.
Have professional insurance and provide proof of same.
Be supportive of the mission of the Sunbeam House Services
Be in receipt of clinical supervision appropriate to level of experience and client loads as recommended accrediting body.
Be prepared to abide by the Sunbeam House Services policies in addition to their own accrediting body’s code of ethics.
Experience of counselling adults with an intellectual disability.
