Director of Services – The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre

The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre is the leading Cancer Support Centre in the North East of Ireland. The centre is located in close proximity to the Oncology and Haematology Departments in our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. It also provides psychosocial support to people attending Beaumont Hospital, The Mater Hospital, St. James Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital and maintains close links with key staff in all of these centres. The centre boasts a wide range of therapies and therapeutic approaches to aid and support clients and their families as they transition through the various stages of the cancer journey. The staff and volunteers work together to provide an atmosphere of care and compassion in a safe, confidential and therapeutic environment.

The Centre is seeking to hire a Director of Services who will report to the Board of Trustees. Working with the Director of Finance and Fundraising, the Director of Services is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of operations in the centre. This includes internal and external relationships, the day to day running of the service including management of staff and volunteers, management of a budget and adherence to organizational governance.

The successful candidate will:
Essential:
Be on the live register with nursing and Midwifery board Ireland (NMBI)
Have at least ten years post-registration experience, five of which must be in oncology
Have a sound understanding of the needs of clients and their families and the challenges they face at all stages of the cancer journey
Have a sound understanding of relevant psychotherapeutic approaches and of complementary therapies suited to the needs of clients and their families.
Have evidence of ability to empathise with and treat clients, relatives and colleagues with dignity and respect
Have the ability to work on own initiative and facilitate strategic planning, development and management of operational plans including human resource management, budgeting, knowledge of ICT systems and health work and safety issues
Have a commitment to ensure effective and efficient delivery of a quality service
Have experience and competence in leadership, team development, and motivation of staff and volunteers
Have a willingness to travel within the region and work flexible hours.
Have a commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable:
Have evidence of a post graduate counselling and psychotherapy qualification (degree or masters level)
Have experience in public relations and media liaison skills.
