Domestic Violence Specialist – Longford Women’s Link

Reporting to the Domestic Violence Coordinator, the DVS will be responsible for the immediate provision of support services to all LWLDVS clients who are experiencing domestic violence, including cases identified as high risk of serious harm or murder. From the outset, the DVS must be able to co-ordinate a multi-agency response to the identified risk. It is imperative that the successful DVS has the relevant experience to hit the ground running and work with a varied and difficult case load from day one.

The salary for this position is €33,000 per annum for 35 hours per week. This is a full-time, fixed term, one year contract. The successful candidate will be required to go through the Garda Vetting process.

Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate must have
Direct experience of working on the front line in the Domestic Violence sector
A minimum of 3 years’ experience working as an advocate supporting clients to access their rights and entitlements by interacting with relevant agencies and organisations in a statutory, voluntary, or community setting
A Degree/diploma in social sciences/social care/counselling or community development disciplines would be an advantage but is not essential
Key Skills & Competences

The ideal candidate must have
Hands on knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence
A gender analysis which demonstrates how gender inequality precipitates violence against women
An understanding of the needs of victims experiencing domestic violence.
Experience in implementing self-care practices and maintaining personal/professional boundaries.
Experience of managing varied and difficult caseloads, with strong crisis and conflict management skills
A working knowledge of Family & Criminal law, specifically Domestic Violence Orders, Non-Fatal Offences against the Person Act, and the area of Access and Custody
Demonstrable Ability to maintain accurate records and to assist with the monitoring, evaluation, and statistical analysis of client outcomes
Excellent Communication and IT skills
The successful candidate will be required to travel within Longford and must have their own transport and a full clean driving licence.
