Overview:
Retina International (RI) was established in 1978 as an international umbrella group acting as a central point of contact for patient organisations concerned with finding cures for retinal degenerative diseases including rare and genetically inherited and age related forms. RI has grown to be a powerful voice for the global retina community with 43 active member organisations, along with further interested groups across all continents.
The Role:
Retina International is seeking a professional with a background in science communications, engagement and Outreach to carry out the following duties:
Work with the RI team on the implementation of its global communications strategy.
Work with project managers on the delivery and dissemination of capacity building and educational resources to our global audience.
Coordinate communication between a global contributors ensuring adherence to agreed deadlines and milestones.
Main point of contact for global membership.
Responsible for compilation of quarterly newsletters to different audiences.
Maintain and develop the RI website, both public facing and members only sections,
Manage and update social media platforms.
Responsible for regular dissemination of relevant scientific literature.
Represent RI at conferences and events.
Skills Required:
Experience of working in outreach programmes in the area of health and health research.
Ability to interpret scientific data and provide it in lay terminology that is accessible and translatable.
Understanding of new and existing social media and communications platforms to facilitate global communications.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with the area of ophthalmology desired but not a requirement.
Interest in global affairs.
Requirements:
Experience in a similar role.
Third level qualification in a scientific discipline, political science or communications.
Proficiency in Microsoft packages.
Proficiency in Word Press desirable.
Fluent English speaker required, second language desirable.
