Events and Communications Intern – GLEN Diversity Champions Programme

GLEN, the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network is a leading national organisation working to achieve full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Ireland.

The Opportunity:
Do you have an interest in helping to shape equality, diversity and inclusion in Ireland? We are seeking to add to our award winning team at GLEN in creating positive change for LGBT people in Ireland. Working on the Diversity Champions programme, you will play an important role in delivering world class support to employers, LGBT leaders and allies who are making their workplaces LGBT inclusive.

As the Events and Communications Intern, you will work on a diverse range of projects from member communications to national media and conferencing. Throughout each project, you will deliver top class events and regular updates to our current and prospective members. Diversity Champions events and communications directly engage almost 50 leading companies who employ almost 100,000 people across the public and private sectors in Ireland. Your work will help to grow the programme and achieve greater LGBT equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your own skills during this internship and your professional development will be supported by GLEN through training and supervision.

The Person:
Are you social media savvy, can manage important events or have marketing experience or knowledge? You may have worked in business or a voluntary organisation, be interested in the LGBT equality or have a passion for events and communications. We are looking for someone who has a keen eye for detail, is driven by achieving targets, a team player and has a strong desire to work for social change.

Responsibilities:
Preparation of membership communications including emails, social media and e-newsletters
Event planning and delivery
Development and distribution of marketing material
Liaising with creative agencies, designers and print production
Maintenance and updating of GLEN and Diversity Champions social media channels
General programme administration, including preparation of membership kits, membership records and statistics, development & updating of mailing lists
Actively participate in and contribute to ongoing team meetings, general staff meetings, quality improvement and action and strategy planning;
Maintaining a professional standard of behaviour;
Perform other duties to assist with the general work of GLEN as necessary.

Knowledge and skills required:
Essential:
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to effectively and professionally communicate and liaise with members across a wide range of sectors, both verbally and in written correspondence.
Demonstrated ability to manage changing priorities and workloads in a small team environment and to use initiative to consistently achieve results.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collegiate team.
Demonstrated knowledge and /or ability to quickly learn MS Office Word and PowerPoint, social media, mail chimp, events planning cloud services particularly and Google docs.
Understanding of and commitment to the aims and objectives of GLEN
Very good working English

Additional Information:
This is an unpaid intern position. It will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to be part of the development of Ireland’s first and only lesbian, gay and bisexual workplace diversity programme.

GLEN will seek to provide additional career development opportunities for the intern.

This post is open to candidates who are qualified for the Department of Social Protection’s Job Bridge programme. Certain “out of pocket” expenses will be paid by GLEN.

The duration of the post will ideally be for 9 months based on a 5 day working week in GLEN’s offices, Dublin city centre.
