The Irish Men’s Sheds Association was formed to support the development and sustainability of Men’s Sheds in Ireland.
Our VISION is: “A future where all men in Ireland have the opportunity to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing by taking part in a community Men’s Shed.”
Our MISSION is: The Irish Men’s Sheds Association will; support communities, organisations and individuals who wish to establish a Men’s Sheds, support the sustainability of Men’s Sheds, and share information freely between Sheds.

The Irish Men’s Sheds Association was set up in January 2011 with the purpose of supporting the development and sustainability of Men’s Sheds on the Island of Ireland. We are a registered charity with CHY number 19928. The Irish Men’s Shed Association (IMSA) is a member-based organisation formed to share information freely between Sheds and support communities and organisations wishing to establish a Shed. The IMSA as a national organisation represents the collective issues of Men’s Sheds in Ireland.
Since January 2011 we are very proud that our organisation has:
Supported the start up of over 200 new Men’s Sheds across Ireland
Increased our membership to well over 250 Sheds and growing!
Secured funding from the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, the Arthur Guinness Fund, the Ireland Funds, the HSE, Pobal, etc,
Supported over 35 Volunteers to be involved in our organisation; Men’s Shed Advocates and Board Members
Developed a great reputation and high levels of good will and commitment within our organisation
Introduced societal knowledge of Men’s Sheds
Secured international recognition from Ashoka Changemakers as an innovative model for improving health outcomes
Secured inclusion in several national policy documents in Ireland including the National Men’s Health Policy 2008, HSE published document Suicide Prevention in the Community, and political party Policy Documents on Suicide Prevention and Human Rights for Older People.
The Irish Men’s Shed Association is working towards a future where all men have the opportunity to improve and maintain their health and well-being by participating in a community Men’s Shed. We are a grassroots organisation and we base our actions directly as a response to the needs, as expressed by the Men of the Sheds, so that we can make it is as easy as possible for any group of men to set up and run a Men’s Shed.
In order to provide this support, IMSA engages with public service providers, philanthropic investors, foundations and corporate partners to support our work with advice, expertise and funding.
IMSA is seeking an Interim Chief Executive to take on the management, oversight and day to day running of the organisation for a period of one year.
About the role:
This role offers a great opportunity for a passionate and dynamic individual to take on the running of an exciting grassroots organisation that has, in a very short time, made a significant impact on the landscape of men’s health and support across Ireland. The organisation has garnered significant praise and support for its work, which is based on a very successful model developed in Australia. The Interim Chief Executive will work closely with the board of directors and will manage the current team of staff and volunteers. The role will focus on all core aspects of operational, financial and team management and the successful candidate should be passionate about social change and a champion for the work of the Men’s Sheds in Ireland.
Key Objective
To advance the IMSA Strategic Plan 2013-16
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
To draft and oversee the implementation of operational work programmes and long-term strategic plans.
To ensure that the IMSA’s administrative systems, programmes, activities and services are quality assured and audited annually.
To lead, inspire and manage staff and volunteers, while ensuring their on-going effectiveness and development.
To monitor the ISMA’s annual budget and grow its financial resources so as to creatively meet future programme, human and capital requirements regionally as required.
To service and contribute to the IMSA Board and the work of its sub-groups, as appropriate.
To represent the collective issues of Men’s Sheds to the all external bodies and media while maximising all ICT possibilities
To ensure relevant research on men’s health and well-being is undertaken and/or commissioned so as to inform future health & social policy and relevant service development
To identify & develop potential partnerships and entrepreneurial initiatives in furthering ISMA’s mission & goals
To actively represent and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, funders etc. on behalf of the ISMA, as appropriate.
To undertake any additional duties that may arise within the scope of the work, as agreed with the IMSA Board.
Key requirements
Minimum of 2 years relevant management experience – the successful applicant is likely to have had significant leadership role in a number of fields related to health and well being or economic enterprise
Ability to think strategically, prioritise workloads and deliver agreed targets
An ability to engage and influence at a senior level and cultivate stakeholder relationships
Excellent people skills & facilitation, including volunteer management and development
Excellent relationship management and communications skills
Proven track record of financial management, and ideally income generation or fundraising success
Ability to manage employees and work effectively with other members of the senior management team in a collaborative environment
A passion for social change
Experience in marketing and public relations activities, including dealing with the media.
Experience in enterprise or corporate engagement while not essential will be considered a significant advantage.

HAS REPORTING TO: Office manager, contract workers, other staff and volunteers
DATE REQUIRED: Immediate Start
SALARY: c. €50,000 Commensurate with Experience
