Head of Cheeverstown Centre & Community Transitions – Cheeverstown House

The Purpose of the Role
The newly created role of Head of Cheeverstown Centre & Community Transitions will report to the Director of Operations and Service Developments and will work closely with the management team to ensure the delivery of a person centred model of care for the people we support within Cheeverstown centre. This position is the senior management nursing role for the organisation. This position will be operationally responsible for the management and supervision of all nurse managers, nursing and social care and related support staff within Cheeverstown centre. The person will be responsible for the clinical governance and practice development of the nursing role across the organisation as it transitions towards community based services.

This position will promote best practice in relation to quality of services, best practice in health and safety and compliance with HIQA National Standards. The person will have a key role as part of the project team for Accelerating the Implementation of the “Time to Move on from Congregated Settings” report and delivery on the organisations strategic priorities.

In view of the evolving nature of our Service it is likely that your role will evolve over time to reflect such developments, this will enable us to support the Service as we continue to deliver valued outcomes for the people we support.

Qualification and /or experience required:
Essential criteria: Candidates must have the following:
The successful applicant will have a proven record of success.
Must be a registered nurse (eligible at all times while holding this office, to be on, the live register of nurses maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, NMBI).
Must have 7 years relevant post registration nursing experience.
Must have (within the last 6 years) a minimum 3 years’ relevant experience working with people with disabilities and community partners.
Must possess a minimum of 3 years management/supervisory experience, including team leadership with resource planning and allocation.
Must have experience providing clinical supervision to, and mentoring, to nursing staff, social care and related support staff.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families /visitors, employees, management and external bodies e.g. GPs, hospitals, HSE, HIQA, etc.
Must have a level of expertise gained from a combination of practical experience, training or professional accreditation
Must possess a thorough understanding of the legislative framework, standards and best practice methodology that apply to quality/risk management and audit issues within the disability sector.
Relevant experience as it relates to Standards and the present regulatory environment. e.g. HIQA,
Demonstrate experience implementing healthcare / social care initiatives
Will have a record of achievement in successfully implementing service improvement initiatives within deadlines and performance indicators
Will ideally have Project Management skills, with demonstrated experience in developing project plans, coordinating of relevant resources, reviewing progress to ensure delivery of agreed Project outcomes.
Evidence of learning from continuing professional development, clinical supervision, reflective practice and review of his/her scope of practice

Essential Skills, knowledge, competencies and experience
Excellent interpersonal skills working collaboratively to enable the building of effective relationships with key stakeholders especially the people living in Cheeverstown, their families / advocates, key personnel, including supporting teams at all levels in the organisation
A strong Person Centred focus
Strong information technology literacy, including Microsoft Office packages, spreadsheets, Excel and other databases, PowerPoint and internet research ability
Excellent written and oral communication skills
A strong ability to plan and organise work to achieve outcomes when working unsupervised
A strong ability to think creatively and strategically and utilise problem-solving skills while working collaboratively
Experience in the development of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines

Desirable criteria:
Should have a record of continuous professional development (CPD).
A post-registration qualification in healthcare management or equivalent qualification will be an advantage.
In the absence of such a qualification, the appointee will be required to undertake such training within a specified timeframe agreed in contract of employment

Salary & Benefits
Salary will be paid from scale € 65,000 to €71,320 as per Dept. of Health & Children, and will be reflective of experience.

The appointment is full time, permanent and pensionable.

The annual leave associated with the post is 30 days per annum.
