Health Policy Advisor – Disability Federation of Ireland

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POST:
This is a key position directly supporting the work of the Senior Management Team at strategic and operational level within the organisation. The post holder will be required to use their judgement and initiative, directing and supporting work across the health portfolio on behalf of the Federation, and in line with the DFI Strategic and Operational Plans.

The post holder will have a close working relationship with both DFIs Management team and staff, and with colleagues in the disability voluntary sector and the HSE. The post holder will work to support the implementation of health policies at national, regional and local levels, providing voluntary disability organisations with information and support around the changing health policy context.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
The post holder will develop and maintain positive relationships particularly with colleagues, voluntary disability organisations and a range of statutory agencies in pursuit of the interests of DFI. She/he will work in a respectful, co-ordinated and integrated way with colleagues and other statutory and voluntary agencies.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
The successful candidate will work as part of a team focusing primarily on the health agenda, supporting relationships with DFI members and colleagues in the HSE and Department of Health. The post holder will work closely with DFI Management and staff to deepen the organisations understanding of key policy issues. Their work will include

Supporting the preparation of accessible and succinct policy statements, papers, position documents and reports.
Ensure the delivery of information and policy services on behalf of DFI to the highest possible standard.
Advising and supporting the organisation with regard to current and emerging issues of disability interest and concern.
Represent the organisation at national level in the area of health policy and implementation
Identifying opportunities to enable DFI to extend its range of policy and services and to enhance its contribution to the development of health policy.
Providing feedback to the disability movement on health policy developments
Getting information and feedback from the disability movement on health policy developments
