Primary Healthcare Coordinator – Southside Travellers Action Group – Dublin

Southside Travellers is a community development organisation based in Sandyford, Dublin 18, which envisions an Ireland where the human and civil rights, dignity and distinct cultural identity of Travellers is acknowledged and respected. We design, develop and deliver of a series of integrated programmes which proactively respond to the needs of Travellers in the Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council area. All of our work is guided by the core principles of: Traveller leadership and participation, advocacy and equality, partnership and accountability.

The Post: Southside Travellers is seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals for the post of Primary Healthcare Co-ordinator. This is a short-term contract for at least five months. Salary is in accordance with experience. The job involves co-ordination, day-to-day management and ongoing development of all aspects of Southside Travellers Primary Health Care Programme.

Qualifications: Third level education and/or three years Community Development experience

Specific Responsibilities

Management of the day-to-day direction, implementation and financial control of the Primary Health Care Travellers project
To devise a focussed programme which addresses the specific needs of the community.
To identify barriers for Travellers in relation to access and uptake of services in health, and to develop strategies to counteract these barriers.
To develop a system for continuing dialogue between Travellers, the local health care providers and managers of Community Care in respect of the coverage, scope and quality of primary care
To liase closely with relevant national and local organisations
To develop practical models for the active inclusion of Travellers in policy and service provision and to promote their implementation by the service providers.
Develop health education materials appropriate to the Traveller Community.
Promote awareness, interest and knowledge of health matters through formal and informal education methods
To keep financial records and to identify additional sources of funding for specific projects that arise within the context of the programme.
To record all work undertaken and to report on a regular basis to the Management Committee of Southside Travellers
Any duties as may be required

The ideal candidate should have:

Third level education and/or three years Community Development experience
Training/education and project management skills/experience
An understanding and commitment to the principles of Community Development
Experience of developing and/or facilitating training
Experience of financial management and of sourcing funding
Excellent group work and facilitation skills
Report-writing, planning reviewing and evaluation skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
