Misean Cara is seeking qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Project Officer
Reporting to the Head of Funding, the Project Officer will be responsible for the processing of project applications, as well as monitoring and evaluation.
The Project Officer will work as part of a team assisting Misean Cara in its support to member organisations for their development work. The role will consist of building relationships with member organisations, reviewing and analysing project applications and reports and assisting with processes to strengthen the quality and impact of members development work in specified sectors or programme areas.
MISEAN CARA
Founded in 2004, Misean Cara is a faith based organisation of 89 congregations who are committed to working with and for the marginalised and most vulnerable people in the developing world. Our members live and work with marginalised communities in the areas of education, healthcare including HIV/AIDs, community development, income generation, water and sanitation, the environment and human rights. Our purpose is to be in solidarity with the poor in ways that transform lives while respecting the integrity of local cultures.

To support initiatives that address the structural causes of poverty, vulnerability and marginalisation
To focus funding on work that makes a significant positive difference to the lives of the poor, vulnerable and marginalised
To provide capacity building and organisational development support to assist member organisations and their partners to deliver high quality development work
To enhance Misean Cara systems, processes, governance and internal communications to ensure results are achieved consistently and in a cost effective manner
To augment risk management systems and processes by enhancing oversight through a greater focus on monitoring, evaluation and audits
To ensure that development results are demonstrated and communicated in ways that assure that the partner contribution and value of missionary development work is recognised within the development sector and by the public
POSITION SUMMARY: Project Officer
Working as part of the Funding Section Team you will be responsible for providing funding support to missionary development projects as follows;
Be a main contact point for missionary development projects applying for funding to Misean Cara and those who are already in receipt of funding
Develop positive working relationships with Misean Cara members providing information, support and guidance in relation to specified sectors of work
Assess and follow up on funding applications ensuring they comply with Misean Cara policies, guidelines, standards and systems
Review and monitor project activity reports ensuring they comply with Misean Cara standards, systems and performance indicators
With your colleagues in the funding section team, be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of project deliverables, project planning, budgeting, action plans and monitoring processes.
Ensures close collaboration and coordination with colleagues to enhance smooth implementation of activities and achievement of results as specified in grant agreements.
Liaise with other development focused organisations working in the field
Trouble shoot and respond positively to any project problems
The essential skills and attributes required of the Project Officer are:
A degree level qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
Experience in Development
A good understanding of, and experience in development issues;
An appreciation of contemporary emphasis on results in development funding;
A knowledge of the priority development areas where Misean Cara members work;
Proven ability to review development projects and reports.
Field experience
Experience of working in the development sector, particularly in the developing world;
Experience of working with a variety of different scale of organisations in terms of resources and expertise.
Additional skills and attributes that would be desirable are:
Some knowledge and experience of faith based organisations;
An affinity with development work undertaken by Irish missionaries and their partners;
Strong communications and report writing skills;
Excellent computer skills;
Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills;
A high degree of self-sufficiency and initiative, and the ability to innovate;
The ability to work well in a team;
A willingness to travel internationally;
Ability to work with organisations at different stages of development.
Experience working in the areas of health, HIV and Aids and water projects
This post is offered on the following terms:
a 2 year contract basis;
salary range €35,000 to €45,000, dependent on qualifications and experience;
42 hours per week;
9 months’ probation.
