1. To be responsible, subject to the general direction and control of the Head of Social Work & Family Services or the Chief Executive, or delegate, for social work duties associated with the services provided by Ability West. 2. To liaise with team members, Respite Co-ordinator and other relevant Ability West staff. 3. To promote service innovation in accordance with best practice. 4. To work as part of a number of inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary teams to promote the best interests of service users and their families. 5. To keep such records and submit such reports as may be required by the Head of Social Work & Family Services. 6. Maintain up to date records of all contacts and meetings. 7. To reside within reasonable distance of the designated social work base. 8. To perform such other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned by the Head of Social Work & Family Services, delegate or the Chief Executive. 9. To undertake relevant training courses (both in house and external) as may be required to develop the necessary skills in order to meet client/organisational needs. 10. Be familiar with and implement Ability West?s and the statutory authorities procedures in relation to client protection. 11. Be familiar with and adhere to the Ability West?s Safety Statement, Trust in Care policy, Dignity, Respect and Equality in the Workplace policy and all other organisation?s operational and quality procedures and guidelines and ensure that staff are made aware of, and comply with same, insofar as is possible. 12. Participate in IT initiatives including Core HR, Personal Development Planning (PDP), Performance Management System in line with Ability West policy, or any other system introduced by the organisation. 13. Perform such other duties appropriate to the position as may be assigned by your Department Head, the Chief Executive or delegate. 14. Work in any of the organisation?s centres as assigned by the Chief Executive. In addition to Casework and working with natural families, the Social Worker will be involved in all aspects of the recruitment, training, assessments, support, review and supervision of Home Sharing and Shared Living Families which will include the following: 15. The social worker will participate, facilitate and assist in the training of new home sharing families in line with the ?Home Share Galway? Good Practice Guidelines. 16. They will familiarise themselves with the protocols, standards, and the guidelines of the National Standards for Foster Care & the National Standards for Home Sharing. 17. Provide regular supervision and support to host families. 18. Conduct Host Family Reviews. 19. Conduct Home Sharing Placement Reviews. 20. Ensure that the host families understand, accept and operate within all relevant standards, policies and procedures of Ability West. 21. Maintain up to date record of all contacts and meetings with the host families, to include issues discussed, requests for additional support and responses to these requests. 22. Ensure that there are supports in place for host families and their guest?s which should include supports from multi d teams.

Skills Requirements
Candidates must possess a National Qualification in Social Work (N.Q.S.W.) or Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (C.Q.S.W.). Experience in learning disability is desirable.
