Purpose of Job:
The Volunteer Engagement and Participation Officer is our organisation’s active recruiter of the young voices we seek to amplify and engage.
The Volunteer Engagement and Participation Officer is specifically responsible for increasing the numbers of young people who volunteer and take on active leadership roles with SpunOut.ie, and for ensuring young people’s voices are heard online through our polling and consultation infrastructure.
The Volunteer Engagement and Participation Officer will work closely with the Executive Director and the rest of the team to further develop SpunOut.ie as a volunteer-led service.
The Volunteer Engagement and Participation Officer will join SpunOut.ie at an exciting time for the organisation as we move into a new phase in our development. SpunOut.ie is well-placed to expand its impact and the Volunteer Engagement and Participation Officer will be essential in facilitating this growth.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
The Volunteer Engagement and Participation Officer has responsibility over the following areas:
Engaging and recruiting volunteers into the organisation
Developing a volunteer recruitment strategy and process to ensure a consistently high intake of skilled and engaged volunteers
Promoting volunteering with SpunOut.ie at a range of events, festivals and other high-volume youth events
Developing specific strategies to recruit volunteers through digital platforms
Supporting the young volunteers who contribute to the organisation’s governance structures
Ensuring SpunOut.ie continues to deliver best practice in youth participation
Running online consultations with young people in both formal and informal contexts, and further developing the organisation’s capacity and expertise in this area
Increasing the interactivity of our online platform to create a stronger sense of community for our service-users, including through integrating more polls and quizzes into our online presence
Ensuring SpunOut.ie continues to amplify and champion the voices of young people
Carrying out any other duties as may from time to time be required by the Executive Director
Skills and Attributes:
Qualifications and Experience:
A relevant third-level qualification or equivalent experience
At least three years’ experience working with young people
Youth Engagement:
Experience of working closely with young people, preferably involving recruitment, management, training and support of young people
Knowledge of youth protection legislation and practice
An understanding and experience of the youth sector in Ireland
An interest in and understanding of youth health and social issues, and the internet as a tool for youth engagement
Youth Participation:
A good understanding of the challenges facing organisations that wish to increase young people’s participation in their work and in society generally
Demonstrable experience organising events to engage with young people to inform, educate and inspire
Demonstrable experience of recruiting young people to voluntary organisations or causes
A history of working with and reaching out to young people from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages and viewpoints
Communications Experience:
A very high level of communication skills in the English language, both oral and written
Experience in producing analytical and well-presented reports and publications
Experience of monitoring and evaluation
Demonstrable proficiency and experience with online promotion, especially in the context of social media
Personal Skills:
The ideal candidate will:
Be a self-starter with strong organisational skills, with the capacity to prioritise and balance conflicting demands
Have strong interpersonal skills capable of building strong relationships and having an ability to influence others
Have a proven background in delivering on targets within agreed budgets and timeframes
Exhibit strong collaborative and team-working skills
Be tech-literate and have a keen attention to detail
