Front Line Defenders is currently seeking to recruit two enthusiastic and experienced interns to join the Media Team for the Front Line Defenders Dublin Platform 2015, which will run from 4 to 7 November.
The Dublin Platform is one of the biggest gatherings of human rights defenders in the world bringing together more than 100 human rights defenders from 85 countries. All of the participants are at risk because of their peaceful work defending the rights of others. The job of the Media Team is to get as many of these compelling stories into national and international media as possible.
In addition the Dublin Platform provides the opportunity for human rights defenders to tell their own stories.
During the Dublin Platform the Media Team will work to:
ensure maximum media coverage of the event both nationally and internationally
pre-research to identify those stories which will have most resonance for the general public
identify media opportunities across all sectors of the media for those stories of HRDs to be heard
ensure a steady flow of information and news items for the organisation’s own web site and social media
identify which of the participants would could be interviewed for broadcast on Youtube
draft press releases in relevant languages for distribution to in-country media
provide general support for media relations and related events
Experience
Candidates should have a good knowledge of Irish and International Media. Good writing skills are essential as is the ability to identify media opportunities and develop story outlines in a clear and concise way. Journalistic experience of working in a fast moving media environment would be a significant advantage.
These are short-term contract positions. One will run from mid-August to mid-November and the other will run from mid-September to mid-November.
The positions will be based in Front Line Defender’s office in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, Ireland. Honorarium: €1100 per month.
