Front Line Defenders is inviting applications for the position of Campaigns Intern. The successful candidate will work closely with and report to the Head of Campaigns, and will work closely with the media team, events team, along with interfacing with other staff.
The role will include research, communications with human rights defenders by email and phone, developing and updating website material, developing multimedia material for use in campaigns, tracking and collecting data on impact of campaigns, and tracking and developing content on human rights defenders for dissemination via the Front Line Defenders website and other outlets.
The internship is designed to provide training and practical work experience in an international organisation to recent graduates seeking a career in human rights. The intern will learn about the role and challenges faced by human rights defenders across the world; the international and regional mechanisms of protection for human rights defenders; the role of Front Line Defenders and other national and international organisations in the support and protection of human rights defenders; the strategic employment of innovative and effective media, communications and campaigning tools and initiatives to support the visibility, legitimacy and recognition of human rights defenders. She/He will be expected to participate in induction, weekly team meetings and meetings with human rights defenders, and relevant out-of-hours events.
Person Specification
The Campaigns Intern should have good research and writing skills, excellent communications skills, ability to use still and video cameras, know how to upload content to various web-based platforms, be familiar with using social media for targeted outreach, video and image editing programs, and a creative thinker.
Key skills include:
Excellent writing skills in English
Strong attention to detail
Interest in international affairs and sensitivity towards the situation of human rights defenders. Previous work experience with organisations working in the field of human rights is desirable
Excellent time management and communication skills
Experience with researching and preparing a narrative for presentation to wider audience
Ability to multi-task and work to deadlines
Some knowledge of Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, basic HTML. Experience in the management of social media networks
Experience with video recording and photography, including graphic design
Good organisational skills. Experience of organising events and preparation and follow up of meetings, including related administrative tasks
While not essential, knowledge of another language, preferably Spanish, French, Russian or Arabic is an advantage
Core Responsibilities
Work with Head of Campaigns to develop multi-media material for campaigns
Coordinating with Protection Coordinators and HRDs to identify and collect material related to campaigning, grant follow-up and video programming
Work with Head of Campaigns to produce short video interviews with Dublin Platform participants
Implement social media strategy and engagement with the media team
Manage photo database for the organization
Tracking, collecting data and producing analysis on impact of campaigns and outreach initiatives
This position is a 9-month, 30 hour per week paid internship with an honorarium of €1100 per month. The successful candidate will be required to work at the Front Line Defenders office in Dublin, Ireland.
